If one person ordered €60 and another €20, a proportional tip asks more of the bigger order. Split equally, they contribute the same. Neither is more correct; the What if panel shows both so the table can look at the numbers and decide.
One person can also add a personal tip on top of whatever the group agreed. It is shown as its own line so nobody has to wonder where it went.
Restaurants and countries differ on whether a tip is calculated before tax, after tax, or on the whole payable bill including the service charge. SplitTab defaults to the amount currently payable and lets you change the basis explicitly — it does not assume a local custom.
