Vouchers, coupons, loyalty discounts and complimentary items. Whether a discount comes off before or after the service charge changes the answer, so SplitTab asks rather than assuming.

What somebody owes and what they handed over are two different numbers, and the gap between them is their balance. If Maya put in €50 but only owed €42, she gets €8 back through the settlement rather than having it absorbed into a tip.
A reservation deposit paid weeks ago counts too: whoever funded it is credited for it, the restaurant balance drops by that amount, and the settlement reflects both.
If less has been paid than the bill comes to, the remainder is shown as money still owed at the till — not turned into an imaginary debt between two people at the table.
SplitTab never touches a bank, a card or a payments app, and it does not produce generic payment QR codes: those work differently in every country and a one-size code would be misleading. You get the amounts, plainly, to paste wherever your group already settles up.
